Our Kids 8 Week Sewing Term is tailored for those eager to learn the ins and outs of sewing, from start to finish. Over eight weeks, we will delve into sewing fundamentals, guiding the young learners from winding bobbins to threading and using sewing machines safely, all to refine their sewing and fashion skills.
Throughout this term, children will have the opportunity to create a fully wearable garment using either carefully selected fabrics from our collection or their own personalised materials.
This class is perfect for children aged 8 and above, with 1.5-hour weekly lessons over 8 weeks. It is open to all skill levels, as we aim to teach the basics of sewing in an engaging and enjoyable manner. Each term is centred around project-based learning, allowing kids to learn how to sew, use a sewing machine safely, and address troubleshooting and maintenance by actually creating a wearable garment. As each term focuses on a different project, new techniques are introduced, or existing skills are refreshed based on the garment being made.
Things they'll learn:
- Understanding sewing patterns
- How to operate a sewing machine and how the different functions of the sewing machine work
- Types of fabric and their compositions
- How to use other decorative stitches
- How to edge seams so they don’t fray
- How to hand-stitch
- Sewing with care and machine maintenance
- Winding a bobbin and threading a machine
- Basic troubleshooting
- Buttons and buttonholes
